Focus is Key:
What is your store all about? What experience do you want your customers to have? Answer these questions then focus on them and them alone. Don’t try to do everything at one time, More lines, more models; more choice is not what customers are looking for. Your customers are looking for the best choice. That means you want to be more a curator that organizes and presents a collection of products customers can clearly see have advantages over the competitors.
Know your competition:
Analyse everything! View their website, research their offerings, visit their space. The old saying keep your friends close but your enemies closer is extremely beneficial in the retail business environment. It will allow you to see upcoming trends, review what is successful about your competitors but more importantly see where they lack!
Test & teach staff:
It’s important that your staff know what they are doing, what they are selling and how you want them to do it! Nothing is worse than walking into a retail environment and the staff are either unknowledgeable or no willing to offer advice and answer questions. The key is to invest time and dollars into your employees to reap the rewards of strong associates and as a result, strong sales.
Invite people back:
If someone has purchased something from your store why not get him or her to do it again! Have options in place for people to re-connect with your store, such as social media channels or automated emails after a payment has been made.
